1957 was an average vintage with relatively high acidity and while they were not popular young, I find that they have stayed the course extremely well and make for solid, if not seductive, choices even today, 50 years later. I was suitably impressed with a wonderful nose of serious aromatic breadth and while clearly aged, this is not declining and offers plenty of the classic spice, rose petal and earth along with ample tertiary fruit and forest floor notes that can also be found on the round, rich, sweet and textured flavors that arrive with good power and energy on the impressively long finish. Consistent with what one would reasonably expect, there is mild acidity poking through on the finish but not enough to materially detract from the overall sense of balance. An excellent showing for the vintage and this should continue to hold well. Tasted twice recently with consistent notes.
