Chateau Pontet Canet is located in Pauillac, just south of Mouton Rothschild and d’Armailhac. In fact, they are neighbors. The terroir of Pontet Canet is mostly poor gravel soil typical of the northern Medoc. Since Alfred Tesseron began managing Chateau Pontet Canet, not only did he move to sustainable farming techniques, he also began to tend the vineyard and vinify the wines on a parcel by parcel basis. In 1999, they hired Michel Rolland as their consultant.
